Recently, Dev Patel sat down with W Magazine, and we here at EntUpdates couldn’t be more thrilled. We’ve been a fan of Dev since back when he was on the UK teen-drama, Skins(which is in the middle of getting a US makeover for MTV). From there, you know the rest, Dev, in his big-screen debut, starred in the 2009 Oscar Best Picture Winner, Slumdog Millionaire and has since began dating on-screen love interest Freida Pinto in real life. Dev recently finished filming his first post-Slumdog film, The Last Airbender, based on the the M.Night Shyalaman book series.
Among the notable excerpts from the W Magazine article:
"He is Indian first and foremost, which he says, means reading for parts as the terrorist, the taxi driver, the smart geek, or any 'guy named Raj.' " (on difficulties Indian actors face in Hollywood)
"I grew up five years in the space of five months." (on Slumdog)
"Everything was bigger in America. I had my own trailer, which was like, wow." (On The Last Airbender)
"When I go out on the streets, people are like, 'Hey, Jamal,' or 'hey, Slumdog.' I get that. But one day I want to be known as Dev Patel." (on seperating himself from his Slumdog role)
The Last Airbender is out in theaters Friday, July 2.
