American Idol: The Final Two

And then were two...

Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox. They have been the frontrunners all along, Lee has been the highest ranked guy since day one of our power rankings, Crystal has never been ranked lower than third in our overall standings.

It's the match-up everyone wanted to see and now it's the match-up we will get to see tonight. So here's our breakdown of the final two:

Crystal Bowersox

Background: She has been a frontrunner since we first saw her audition in Chicago, and that as we've seen on Idol (just ask Andrew Garcia) is not an easy thing to do. She has done it, while being able to stay true to herself, she never had a bad week, just not as many great weeks as some were hoping for, which is why she is the underdog heading into tonight's final showdown.

What She Needs To Do: Crystal has to have a couple real strong performances, and find a way to make the cheesy winner's song, which will not be suited for her, as Crystal-like as possible. Also, no talkback to the judges, never a good idea, and she has walked that fine line a few times this season. Finally, find a way to pick up the casual vote, if she doesn't get the casual vote, she doesn't have a shot.

Lee DeWyze

Background: While he may not have been played up as a front-runner from the get go, he screamed possible winner the second we saw him audition (also in Chi-town). He, as we have said before is almost somewhere in between the past two idol winners, Kris Allen and David Cook. Clearly, Lee is the front-runner. The judges made that known last week, and while on the talkshow cicuit early this week, they have maintained the same stance.

What he needs to do: Lee needs to go out there and have vocally solid performances, it's gong to be a nerve-racking night, and it he has pitch problems, his chance of winning could be in serious trouble. Also, Lee has to show people he wants to win, both by feeling the song  and connecting with the viewers at home, as he is definitely a feel artist, and also afterwards with the judges.
