Couple the fact that last weekend was President's Day, always a big release weekend, and the fact that the Winter Olympics are in full swing and that equates to a slow weekend for new releases. In fact, just one wide-release is opening this weekend, that being the much-hyped, Scorsese-directed, DiCaprio-starring, Shutter Island. For a preview take a look inside.
Shutter Island
Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo
Our Take: Scorsese + DiCaprio = Winner. This one should do very well at the box office this weekend, especially considering a) it's the only new release, b) it's been advertised heavily, including during the Olympics, C) Scorsese + Dicaprio, and D) its biggest competition is The Wolfman. We don't know if Shutter Island will be able to climb Percy Jackson and Valentine's Day for the top spot, but we wouldn't bet against it.
