As promised Tiger Woods did take to the podium at TPC Sawgrass today in Ponte Verda, Florida, to read a prepared statemnt, but answer no questions from the select-group of assembled media in attendance.
Among the nuggets one can take away:
- Tiger apologized to everyone including his wife, Elin, his mother, his children, Elin's family, friends, fans, business partners, his foundation, those who work for him, and as he put, "Kids all around the world who admired me."
- Tiger claims, despite reports, there has never been any domestic violence between himself and Elin
- Tiger admitted to being unfaithful and saying, "I am the only person to blame ... I never thought about who I was hurting only myself."
- Tiger also announced he had been in therapy for 45 days, since the end of December, and that he would be returning tommorow
- Tiger said he had returned to the faith his mother taught him growing up, Budhism, which he "Drifted away from in recent years."
- He did not mention anything about a specific return date to golf, only saying, "I do plan on returning to golf one day."
The line seeming to get the most early buzz is this, "I thought I could get away with whatever I wanted to, I felt i had worked hard my entire life, and I deserved to enjoy all the temptations around me, I felt I was entitled. Thanks to money and fame, I didn't have to go far to find them ... I was wrong, I was foolish, I don't get to play by different rules."
