Tuesday night, Idol took the crown. Last night, it was the Vancouver Olympics turn. The Olympics, which had the three most publicized Americans all competing during primtetime - Lindsey Vonn, Apolo Anton Ohno, and Shaun White - had an average of 29.4 million viewers turning in, while Idol had just 18.4 million viewers tune into see which final seventeen contestants made it to the top 24.
This is somewhat significant, because while Idol still put up solid numbers, the show never lost head-to-head against the 2006 Torino games. In fact, Idol hadn't lost any head-to-head battle since April 15, 2004, when a special Thursday night edition of the show (due to a George Bush news conference) lost in the ratings to Survivor: All-Stars.
