American Idol Rankings: The Top 24

Last week, the field was cut from 50 to 24.

The Top 24, a big milestone in the life of a wannabe American Idol. Making it to the top 24 guarantees you get atleast one live performance in front of 20 some-odd million people, unless of course you forget you're already under contract with a record label (see Golightly, Chris).

Anyhow, over the course of Tuesday and Wednesday, twenty-four AI hopefuls will sing live for America, with round one concluding on Thursday with the dreams of four hopefuls crashed and burned.

Here at EntUpdates, we are just glad after six weeks of taped footage Idol is going live, and with that comes our first set of Idol Power Rankings of the season. Each week we'll rank the remaining contestants from worst to best, based on their performance that past week, as well as their overall body of work throughout the course of the show.

After the jump, check out our first set of rankings, and sound off on our rankings if you don't like where your favorite is placed!
So here we go, we found it easy to pinpoint the best six girls, while we might be wrong on the order, we'd be suprised if the top six girls weren't the six who are performing on the big stage three weeks from tonight.

The Girls (Performing tonight, 8/7c on FOX)

12) Janell Wheeler
How did this girl get into the top 24? Simon himself said she had two horrible performances (we didn't think her audition was what it was built up to be either.) Expect an early exit from Janell.

11) Katelyn Epperly
Not the strongest singer in the competiton, not even close. We hate to say it, but, did she get by on looks? Or as Kara likes to put it how, "Commercial" she is?

10) Paige Miles
We really have no clue who this girl is, we didn't even get to see any highlights during her "Yes" from the judges, instead she was part of a 20-second montage.

9) Michelle Delamore
See explanantion above.

8) Haeley Vaughn
Mark these words: Casey Carlson. Haeley Vaughn if not this week, next, will have a carlson-esque debacle (do we need to remind you of CC's version of, "Message in a Bottle?" We didn't think so.) Haeley is certainly cute, and not a horrible singer by any means, but isn't good enough to get into the elusive top 12.

7) Lilly Scott
The bluesy rocker. Right there, that description makes it an automatic uphill battle. Every year there are contestants similar to Lacey, every year they go home early, usually before the top 12. Lily's whole hair situation probably isn't winning her any votes either. The six girls ahead on the power rankings are pretty solid, we don't see Lilly making it.

6) Katie Stevens
Good voice? Yes. Great voice? No. We think this teen has been a tad bit over-hyped by the idol producers, and what about her poor grandmother? We have yet to get through a show without hearing about her, while what is happening to Katie's grandma is horrible, it is getting dangerously close to Gokey status, and you don't want to touch that.

5) Siobhan Magnus
An under the radar rocker chick, Siobhan's biggest problem is going to be the fact that there is another rocker chick above her on these power rankings who has been better publicized by the producers, and that history shows idol voters don't jam the phone lines for these kind of contestants, especially when there are multiples.

4) Didi Benami
This girl has a voice, and certainly has a shot. For some reason though, she is not quite as rememberable as the three in front of her, but nonetheless we'd be suprised if Didi doesn't make it not only in the top 12, but in the top 10 and onto the idols live! tour.

3) Lacey Brown
Real solid, no doubt she's top 12 material. She knows what she's doing, she knows about song choice, basically she gets it, and maybe part of that comes with being one of the last cuts last season.

2) Crystal Bowersox
It's like this show is type-cast year after year. Bowersox is the equivalent of Allison Iraheta last year or Carly Smithson the year before. Smithson finshed sixth, Iraheta finished fourth, we would bet Bowersox has a respectabe finish, and probably lands a record deal, but really can the rocker chick win? Probably not.

1) Ashley Rodriguez
She actually picks current songs which are hits today (rumor has it, this week she'll be singing Leona Lewis' Happy). In addition, the girl can really sing, she's a pro and actually is a trained musician, as she's a student at the world-renowned Berklee School of Music in Boston, plus my hometown needs an Idol Champ!

The Guys (Performing Wednesday, 8/7c on FOX)

The guys are definitely a more unique, memorable group, however as Randy Jackson has been quoted as saying, the girls have more talent overall.

12) Tim Urban
He got cut then added back in after the DQ of Chris Golightly, so it's doubtful he'll be around for very long.

11) Joe Munoz
Why do we not remeber this guy - at all???

10) Alex Lambert
Well, atleast that one super annoying/angry woman, Mary Powers got something right when she told this kid that basically he couldn't sing ... problem was neither could she. Alex is certainly no Adam.

9) Tyler Grady
Cheesy, and not a great singer by any means. Kid, wake-up your not living in 1974. We are a little worried if it goes as bad as we think he could turn into just the type of cannon-fodder the people over at Vote For The Worst love.

8) Casey James
We don't get it. He's not a good singer. He doesn't have a wonderful personality. When Kara had him take his shirt off, he was all blubber - with all that being said, he could make it based on these apparent "looks" he has, if for no other reason than the fact that the six guys slots are a little more wide-open.

7) Jermaine Sellers
Not a bad singer, but not a great singer. Also, that personality of his seemed to turn into something else, maybe it was just the way the producers edited, but Jermaine is a toss-up, a few good weeks and he most certainly could see action on the big stage.

6) "Big Mike" Lynche
This season's Michael Sarver, "Big Mike" will stick around a while, if for no other reason than the "likablity factor" as Simon so often puts it.

5) Todrick Hall
Head-to-head competition vs. Jermaine, similar singers both targeting the same audience, fortunately for Todrick, he's the better singer.

4) John Park
We loved his audition, but did not get to see enough of him during Hollywood week. He could be an Anoop type of contestant, definitely some similarities there (Asian frat boy being just one of them.)

3) Aaron Kelley
The kid screwed up twice during Hollywood week, and he still made it to the top 24, that has got to show you the judges (or producers) think he has got some major talent. Plus, it's safe to say he'll be around for a while, as we're thinking he has already locked up the Archuleta vote.

2) Lee Dewyze
We haven't been overexposed to this guy, but we've seen enough to know who he is. He could be this season's Kris Allen, he's definitely got one of those modern rock type voices.

1) Andrew Garcia
While it may be a girl's year - this guy is the favorite to win it all, and rightfully so.
