Well, it was an apocolyptic weekend at the box office. 2012, despite a pile of poor reviews opened this weekend with a 5-day, $225 million-worldwide showing and a 3-day $65 million American total. This was a good thing for the expensive apocalyptic thriller (or yawner ... depending on who you talk to) because it is all but guaranteed they will not repeat next weekend as a result of New Moon hitting theaters this Friday.
Last week's #1, Disney's A Christmas Carol did well again as the weekend runner-up. The oscar-buzzed Precious finished third. Meanwhile, Michael Jackson: This Is It took in another $5 million this weekend, good for fifth. The only other new release besides 2012 this weekend, Pirate Radio, finished just outside the top 10 in eleventh.
