Album Release Tuesday - 11/17/09

Each Tuesday here on the EntUpdates blog, we breakdown some of the new albums for the week that we are most excited about.

1. Justin Bieber - My World.
Having heard the entire album prior to today, EntUpdates wasn't shocked in any way by My World. But that's because we knew what to expect. With the help of his visionary next-generation manager, Scooter Braun, Justin widdled the album to eight real good tracks. There is no junk, no filler on this album - and that's just one of the reason's why we like it. The album shows off the 360 of Justin's vocal abilities from the poppier hits of One Less Lonely Lonely Girl to the more hip-hop influenced, One Time to the r&b duet he did with Usher, First Dance to the ballad, Down to Earth which Justin himself co-wrote.

2. John Mayer - Battle Studies.
How can you not like John Mayer - there is no doubt he is real - as are his songs. He is a great musician and just as good a songwriter. Once again, a deep album, with meaning. His first single, Who Says has turned out to get alittle more airplay than we expected, particularly on Hot AC stations. It's one of those songs that you know John wrote as he was twittering at two in the morning just getting in from a bar. It's short, but catchy - it's grown on us. Each song on this album has passion and you can feel it upon listening to one song or the entire album. Another gem by John Mayer.

3. Leona Lewis -Echo .
Leona Lewis' sophmore album was released as well today, and with Lewis we still believe it's too early to tell whether she is going to be the next Mariah on the next Mya (with the dancing success aside of course!) We know what Simon Cowell thinks of his prized gem, but excuse us for wondering outloud - could it be possible, is it really that crazy to think that Ms. Lewis could be ... yelp .... a one hit wonder? Bleeding Love was by far 2008's biggest song. It will be on "2008" playlists for years to come but will Lewis' name be associated with any other years? While, Better in Timegot decent Top 40 airplay for a while, this album's first single Happy could not have made the Lewis campers expecting another Bleeding Love very happy.

4. Kris Allen - Kris Allen.
A poor choice by the Allen camp to release on the same day as so many other highly anticpated albums, particulary Justin Bieber and even more so, John Mayer. With that being said we really liked this album. It is not too poppy, it is not too John Mayer. There is actually alittle bit of a rock feel to this album, which suprised us - but we like it. One of the more pop tracks is his first single, Live Like We're Dying which we think is a good foundation for the album and it's the kind of song you want as a single.

5. OneRepublic - Waking Up.
Much like Kris Allen above, OneRepublic made a stupid choice releasing this album this week, a solid effort on the actual music nonetheless. Some songs we like some songs are boring. With that being said, the singles that were released earlier, All the Right Moves, and Secrets are by far the best songs on the album.

Also new this week: Norah Jones with The Fall, Them Crooked Vultures with a self-titled track, and Katy Perry releases a much-raved about MTV: Unplugged album.

This may be the biggest Tuesday of the year for album releases overall, but next week is another big Tuesday with Rihanna's comeback album getting the most buzz. Adam Lambert and Diddy will also be releasing - and Simon Cowell gets another shot next week - this time with Susan Boyle. Lady Gaga will also be coming out with a psuedo-new album.
